Given below is a related pair of articles on Student Feedback (SF) in the NUS context, generalizable in principle to situations outside NUS as well. Willie Tan shows that the overall scores in SF are affected by such factors as class size and teacher's age.  K. P. Mohanan explores the dangers of using SF scores as a convenient basis for making inferences on the quality of teaching, even as an approximation, arguing that certain ingredients of teaching that improve the quality of teaching can have the effect of lowering SF scores.

The following article by Bruce Brown and Anthony Kuk suggests a better strategy for unearthing some of the patterns in SF scores.

The following article from the University of Minnesota contains valuable guidelines for teachers and administrators on the use of Student Feedback information in the evaluation of the quality of teaching.

Please post your comments on these articles and other thoughts on SF in the Discussion Forum. The discussion forum is divided into the following four headings:

  1. Determinants of Student Feedback Scores - Willie Tan
  2. The Place of Student Feedback in Teaching - K P Mohanan
  3. Calibration of Teachers' score - Bruce Brown & Anthony Kuk
  4. General Comments on Student Feedback
