  Human Anatomy Pre-Dissection Lecture-On-Demand Prototype

  Research:

The Abdominal Wall & Inguinal Canal, a prototype anatomy pre-dissection lecture-on-demand (LoD), was produced with the collaboration of the Faculty of Medicine, the Centre for Instructional Technology and the Centre for Development of Teaching & Learning. The web site features seventeen (17) video clips (40 minutes total time) and fourteen (14) full screen graphics with pop-up labels. The final item in the home page selection is linked to an online quiz having multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and select-from-a-list type questions.

This LoD delivery allows students to take more responsibility for their learning and enables them to have greater control over their time schedule. It provides a clear and well-structured presentation with added graphics and text, and students have shown wide support for this new learning resource.

During Summer and Fall 2000, the project site was featured at five conferences.

  • University Surgeons of Asia 4th Scientific Congress, Singapore (full paper presentation)
  • TLHE Symposium (1st Symposium on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education), Singapore (full paper presentation)
  • ICCE/ICCAI 2000 (International Conference on Computers in Education / International Conference on Computer Assisted Instruction), Taipei, Taiwan, (full paper presentation)
  • ED MEDIA 2000 World Conference on Educational Multimedia, Hypermedia & Telecommunications, Montreal, Canada (poster/demo)
  • iGRID 2000 showcase of Internet 2 applications, Yokohama, Japan, (poster/demo)
