Synopsis

This workshop outlines the elements of a quality management system for teaching and learning through the demonstration of real life examples. Participants will gain an understanding of:

  • external and internal pressures which are increasingly requiring institutions to demonstrate systematic quality assurance and improvement;

  • an overall institutional approach to quality and its application in the area of teaching and learning;

  • planning and approval for teaching and learning at all levels;

  • the evaluation of teaching and learning including the shift from review to monitoring systems;

  • performance indicators, target setting and the tracking of achievement;

  • quality improvement through remediation, recognition of excellence and utilisation of good practice; and

  • accountability systems for teaching and learning.

The workshop is lively, interactive and discursive. Participants are encouraged to reflect on implications for their own situations and share their experiences.
