Of American origin, “irregardless” has
been used in casual or non-standard speech and writing; but it has
been widely considered as an inappropriate union of “irrespective”
and “regardless”, and an absurd combination of “the
negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single
term” (The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English
Language, 2000). Thus for formal writing, “regardless”
is more appropriate. |
