Subject-Verb Agreement

One problem with verbs lies in subject-verb agreement; otherwise known as Concord. Consider the following example:

One of my friends practise qigong at the Botanic Gardens every morning.

In this sentence, although the word friends is a plural noun, the subject is one of… (one of many), which is singular. Hence, it is wrong to use the plural form of practise for the singular noun phrase one of….

One of my friends practises qigong at the Botanic Gardens every morning.
